Ingredients:

  1. Coconut - 1/2 cup (grated/sliced)
  2. Red chillies - 4 to 8
  3. Big onion - 1/2
  4. Small onions - 5
  5. Garlic - 2 cloves
  6. Tamarind - small amount
  7. Cashews - 3
  8. Roasted Channa dal - 1/4 cup
  9. Salt - as required
  10. Oil -2 tablespoons for seasoning.
  11. Water - 1.5 liters(approximately)
  12. Curry leaves
  13. Coriander leaves


Method:

Prepare the Chutney Base:
1.In a mixer jar, combine coconut, 5 red chillies, garlic, cashews, roasted channa dal, salt, and tamarind.
2.Grind to a smooth paste, adding water gradually for the desired consistency. Set aside.

  2. 3.Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and urad dal.
    4.Add curry leaves, sliced small onions, 3 red chillies, and coriander leaves. Sauté until onions are golden brown.




    • Create the Chutney:
    • 6.Once the mixture is well sautéed, add 1 litre of water and bring it to a boil.
      7.Adjust salt to taste.
      8.Add the ground chutney mixture, mix well, and turn off the heat.




Let it Rest:
9.Allow the chutney to sit for 5 minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
Serve and Enjoy:
10.Your delightful Thanni Chutney is now ready.
11.Serve generously over hot idlies on a plate or, for an authentic touch, on a banana leaf.
