Vallarai Keerai Kootu/Brahmi leaves Chutney /OPOS(one pot-one shot)

Brahmi known as vallarai in Tamil is a medicinal herb which has been used for centuries in Traditional Indian (Ayurveda) Medicine. Vallarai keerai (leaves resemble the shape of the human brain) has amazing medicinal properties and has the power to cure many diseases. You can include it in your diet once in a week in the form of thuvaiyal, sambar or kootu. Today we will see how to make vallarai keerai Kootu following this easy One pot recipe.


Ingredients:

  1. Vallarai Keerai / Brahmi leaves- 2 cups chopped finely
  2. Yellow Split Moong Dal / Pasi paruppu – 1/2 cup
  3. Tomatoes – 1 large chopped
  4. Garlic – 2 fat cloves
  5. Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1 tsp
  6. Salt to taste
  7. Onion chopped-1 cup.
  8. Red chilly-1 to 2.As per your spice level.

For Seasoning:

  1. Oil – 1 tsp
  2. Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
  3. Cumin Seeds/ Jeerakam – 1/2 tsp
  4. Urad dal / Ulundu paruppu – 1 tsp
  5. Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya podi – 1/4 tsp
  6. Curry Leaves a sprig

Method:

  1. Add all the ingredients in a Pressure cooker/Pan  
  2. Allow it to cook for 3 whistles. If you are using a pan allow it to cook in medium heat for 25 mins or till its cooked. 
  3. Mash it with a ladle so that the dal gets blended with the Brahmi leaves.
  4. Now for seasoning, in a pan add oil and when it's heated add Mustard seeds allow it to splutter and then add all the other ingredients in the seasoning section.
  5. Then add this to the pot.
  6. Easy and healthy one-pot vallarai keerai/Brahmi leaves kootu recipe is ready.
  7. It tastes good with Hot rice with oil/ghee.
